On August 2006, brilliant singer Percy Howard (produced by Bill Laswell and played with Fred Frith, Charles Hayward, Vernon Reid, Trey Gunn, Jarboe among others) asked me to compose a track for his next album. The working title of the tune was "Mulunde".
Ivan Georgiev helped me to redefine the sound on some parts.
Unfortunately, i never received any news from Percy since then...
Don't know if he will actually use it. Anyway, this song might appear on my next album.

On Autumn 2006, serious plans to tour in Europe with Bill Brovold's Larval were built. Unfortunately, the project never encountered real interest in the venues targeted.

By end of 2006, Code314 asked me to do a remix of a song he wrote with Matthias B. It was a great opportunity to try something i never did at the time. The result can be heard as the closing track of the second compilation of the so called Soft Remixed Machine Project.

Beginning of 2007, Franck Balestracci, an artist signed on Carbon7 Records, asked me to collaborate to one of the song that will appear on his third release (no schedule yet). Inspired by Philip K.Dick, i wrote some lines that i'm actually reading on this song.

In 2007 still, François Vanvinckenroy finally decided to build up his own project, wich will be called later Landing Grace.
Like he did for the "Multiply" album, he gave me sketches of
songs i tried to rearrange. I helped him to shape the songs and i wrote a bunch of lyrics for most of them. Later on, singer Natacha Wallez (Elliot Drop) will join, taking the lead and eventually modify the lyrics. Landing Grace performed for the first time on october 2007 as a fourtet with violonist Diane Martin (Barely Sober) and bassplayer Marc Lognard.

UNITY

Unity was the reunion of four musicians willing to constantly improve their craft and to share their passion for unconventional jazz standards.

After PaNoPTiCoN's show at DNA on april 28th 2007, incredibly talented piano player Catherine Smet (Purzelbaum Unlimited, Urbango), came up with the idea to pair up together with trumpeter Jean Paul Lossignol (Ppz30, Sunny Side Jazz Band) who played that gig the same night. Seduced by the idea, he then brought his longtime friend Frédéric "Frouch" Dailly (Frères Brozeur) on bass.
And, believe it or not, i got the incredible chance to take the drum seat.

A few rehearsals and we quickly played our first gig in three sets at Belga Queen on saturday september 22th 2007. We then considered the possibility to have a singer on our side for some featuring, something venues like these appreciate a lot.
Jo Gola (Groove Machine) was in.

By beginning of 2008, the band at least found its name and recorded a four track demo in Magasin4's rehearsal room on thursday january 24th 2008. Three days later, we played at Café Belga. Later the same year, on june 16th, our concert during the Jazz Cats
program at Atelier 210 would became our very last show...

FUNGUS IMPERATOR

End 2007, by autumn's dead, around birth of winter, longtime pal Constantin Papageorgiadis asked me if i knew a keyboard player that would fit the psychedelic trip he was trying to build together with Pascal Parent (The Bumpers, Skeptical Minds) and Fabe Fardelli (of now defunct Khamsin). I said no.
But i told him that i was willing to try...

So i entered the band under my Kenny Clayderman suit, trying to build up whirling sounds that will liquify one brain's out. For long, no serious singer had the guts to dive with assurance into our world. Notwithstanding, we decided to continue with the four of us, building the legend through improvised jam which finally turned into massive spaceflight songs we were always in the urge to offer at our beloved audience.

Even if we made a major leap forward since our very first sessions, no demo recordings has ever seen the light of day. We quickly booked a bunch of dates within a year with overall good audience response. But then our fellow drummer Bela Drumgosi expressed his desire to quit the band. By then, i felt that something was broken so i decided to leave too. Donnie To-Shka and Aldo Mascarpone are now in full control. I wish them all the luck they deserve.

Domenico Solazzo was born around 10:30pm in Watermael-Boitsfort, Brussels, Belgium on wednesday september 26th 1973. The hospital has been demolished soon after.

He quickly showed an interest for anything regarding artistic activities ; drawing (he intended studies as comic book creator at St Luc Institute and published Incommunicado), acting and filming (he took part on two cult short movies, one of which being Quick Invasion), writing (as music critic mainly on famous french speaking webzines such as Guts of Darkness, Traverses or Rif Raf) and of course making music, motivated by the incredible amount of albums he listened to during his puberty.

He started his first musical project, Unpleasant Nature, as he acquired his first drumkit at the age of 19. The band was wildly adventurous, each instrument (bass, saxophone and drums) creating unconventional sounds to generate weird music. It already showed Domenico's faith and interest in improvisation. He then did several tries with other bands as a drummer but the sounds he had in mind and his imagination was always put down to great disappointment.

It took him almost ten years to fulfill his objective : making his own album. In the meantime, technology and computer progress did help him a lot to make it concrete. So, for his thirty anniversary, he released CaRPIGSTRoKe in september 2003. Though it was an amateurish production, the album received good reviews and did sell from Europe to Argentina ! Since then, Domenico kept going his musical activities with a great sense of diversity :

* in 2003 he played with Jan Rzewski's Orchestre de la Gare

* 2003 to 2006 as a drummer he co-wrote the material for alternative rock band DeafDialogue. They recorded a demo in 2004, an album in 2006 and made several shows.

* 2004 and 2005 saw the short lived Carpigstroke Band making only two dates to present his own compostions in front of an audience.

* in less than three years, he released a bunch of ten albums under his own name, ranging to minimal pop to experimental noise !

* in 2004 he produced Rhinestone Lives first album and featured on other releases like the Ximeng split cd

* 2006 saw the release of Multiply, a multi collaborative album with ten other artists. In some ways, it was the starting point to ...

* ... the all improvised electric jazz PaNoPTiCoN collective which began intense touring in april 2007 (until next december 2008, they made more than twenty dates)

* the same year, collaborations abound : wrote a song for Percy Howard (Bill Laswell protegee), did remixes for Code314, worked with Frank Balestracci (signed under Carbon7), did studio sessions for Ivan Georgiev while producing Rhinestone Lives' second effort, co-wrote songs for Landing Grace ...

* from 2007 to 2008, he joined Fungus Imperator as the keyboard player and frontman by default, under the nick name : Kenny Clayderman. Successful shows quickly followed but he decided to quit the band in november. Thoughout the same period of time, he played drums in Unity, a prestigeous quartet covering jazz standards. Alas the band split up in june.

* 2008 was really the "on stage year" as he made more than twenty concerts with his various projects : PaNoPTiCoN, Fungus Imperator and Unity.

* 2009 signed Domenico's return as solo artist with his new studio album, Deadend, with overwhelming response in many specialized media ! Six months later, Domenico spent again more time in various projects, including : performing shows and rearranging songs for Landing Grace (since may), collaborating with Daniel Palomo Vinuesa (still unpublished recordings), starting a new power metal trio under the name of Habemus Papam. In june, he decided to take his PaNoPTiCoN project in the studio in order to release their first studio album ever. It ended up with the release of Cycle, a two cd set, which will be the starting point of a new tour beginning in october.

* It did goes on in 2010 happily ! More dates than ever, from january to june with PaNoPTiCoN, leading the band to new directions (introducing chamber like quartet) and making on air live performances ! Adding to this, first dates with Habemus Papam and release of their first album, plus some guest appearances as a drummer in a jazz trio.

* The neverending adventure of PaNoPTiCoN did continue on 2011. By spring, the band made a major leap has they performed for the first (and last) time outside their country. Habemus Papam did more shows, sharing the bill on two occasions by the end of the year with ex-Hawkwind bass player Alan Davey's Gunslinger.

* At the beginning of 2012, Domenico Solazzo surprisingly took the decision to stop music. He was no longer involved in Habemus Papam - a difficult decision to take - and put an end to PaNoPTiCoN's performances. No new releases should be expected, even in his solo field. Nonetheless, a serie of six anthologies under the name of Live Remains, covering more than seven hours of unreleased improvisation by PaNoPTiCoN, are planned to be released throughout the year.
